MUTEK Montréal Reveals Final Lineup for 27th Edition

Written by Meagen Surowiecki  on May 14, 2026

For over two decades, MUTEK has acted as the heartbeat of Montréal’s digital soul. The festival reveals its final music program for its 27th edition, taking place from August 25 to 30, 2026. This year, the festival is staging a city-wide takeover that challenges how attendees experience the intersection of sound and space.

The most striking element of the 2026 program is its spatial ambition. Artistic Director Alain Mongeau and his team have curated the lineup by environment. The return to the Maison symphonique for the X/Visions series marks a full-circle moment for the festival. Not seen since the legendary 2013 performances by Nils Frahm and Pantha du Prince, the venue’s acoustic precision will now play host to the likes of Kali Malone, Kara-Lis Coverdale, and the collaborative mastery of Ah! Kosmos and Hainbach. It’s a move that elevates electronic music from the "club" to the "concert hall," demanding a level of deep, focused listening that only a room of this caliber can provide.

Equally exciting is the addition of Les Grands Ballets’ Studio-Theatre for the Play series. By reclaiming this space, MUTEK is carving out a dedicated home for audiovisual experimentation, where artists like Estelle Schorpp and JS Baillat & Mateo Murphy can blur the lines between digital environments and physical performance in a more intimate, visual-forward setting.

The numbers alone are staggering, with nearly 120 artists from 28 countries, spanning 18 distinct programs. MUTEK continues to be Montréal’s primary bridge to the global digital community, bringing in voices as diverse as A Guy Called Gerald (UK), ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! (JP), and Nazar (AO).

But the festival’s "backbone" remains the Nocturne series at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT). By utilizing both the Espace SAT and the immersive Satosphere dome, MUTEK ensures that the late-night experience is as much about cinema and spatial sound as it is about the beat. While the indoor venues offer high-concept immersion, the Esplanade Tranquille remains the festival’s democratic heart. The Experience series is entirely free to the public; it ensures that the "future of digital creativity" isn't tucked away behind a paywall. From 5 p.m. daily, the esplanade will transform into a hub of open-air discovery, featuring a curated mix of local and international talent like Honeydrip, Julian Sartorius, and Poirier.

MUTEK 2025

In an era where digital content is often consumed in isolation on small screens, MUTEK 2026 is an argument for the collective experience. It is a reminder that technology, when filtered through art, can be a tool for profound human connection. Whether it’s the high-impact techno of Jeff Mills at MTELUS or the delicate textures of a violin-electronic hybrid at the Maison symphonique, the festival is a six-day laboratory for what comes next.

As the city of Montréal prepares to welcome these 120 visionaries this August, MUTEK certainly remains the gold standard for how a festival can evolve alongside the very technology it celebrates. Individual tickets for each programme and Day Passes for Friday and Saturday are now on sale via the MUTEK website. Festival and Forum Passes, Weekend Passes, student offers, and group offers for four or more people remain available at special pricing until tomorrow evening.

Further announcements will follow in the coming weeks, including the full MUTEKForum lineup and the programme for the third edition of Village Numérique, co-presented by Xn Québec.

Solomun at Pacha New York - Event Review

Every artist has a line they won't cross. For Bosnia-born, Hamburg-raised electronic giant Solomun, that line was geographical. For over ten years, the Diynamic Music boss adhered to a strict, self-imposed summer boundary that once the Ibiza season starts, you do not cross time zones. No transatlantic flights, no grueling long-hauls, and absolutely no leaving […]
